No gas

Yesterday Frantzy and I went and got some of the last 5 gallons of gas in our city...and no one really knows when we'll be getting gas again!  We usually don't put ourselves in dangerous situations on purpose, but our car was running low and to continue the ministry we needed the gas.  Frantzy put on his gangster look and people at the gas station were talking about the Bandi (gangster) and why in the world the blanc (white girl) was with him.  :)  It turned out being a blast, I secretly love stuff like that.  I feel like I can better understand the Haitian people and their life when I too have to wait for an hour and a half for 5 gallons of gas!  We waited in line with about 200 other people at the only gas station in town with gas!  There were people there with motos, coke bottles, milk jugs, and cars!  The people with coke bottles would fill them and then go to the back of the line and sell the gas for a much higher price.  They were making a killing for sure because many people didn't want to wait around.  Frantzy made a new friend who helped us get through!  We left cracking up and in total disbelief that we had just done that!

His Bandi look :)

Frantzy grew up in the ghetto of PaP, so he really knows how to judge if a situation gets too out of hand.  He waited in line with the car angled just enough for a quick get away if anything got too bad.  Such a pro:)

I love listening to Haitians talk about me.  The other day two guys were betting with each other about whether or not I'm American or just a light colored Haitian :) these conversations are becoming more and more common.  People are used to seeing us around, they rarely yell blanc anymore.  They see Cap Haitien is my home and I'm here for the long haul:)
