July update

Wow, it’s hard to believe that it’s almost been a month that I’ve been back in Haiti. God has been so wonderful the past few weeks and I have so much to share! My mom came with me the first two weeks. It was a huge blessing to have her here. God used her in many ways. She blessed the missionaries, loved on kids, and encouraged me so much. I miss her a lot, and still wish she was here, but I know dad couldn’t have made it another day without her! ☺
While she was here we got a container! What an experience! I had texted many of you asking for prayer, because they wanted to charge us thousands of dollars to get the container out of customs. After an awkward meeting at our broker’s house, we talked them down to about a 4th of the original price! Thank you all for praying! Seeing a container unloaded was one of the coolest experiences! They backed the truck into the yard, with literally inches on either side, and it only took 2 hours to unload! Being a part of the container ministry for the last 10 years has been such an honor, but let me tell you. There is nothing like seeing boxes with your name come off the container! I’m amazed every day that God has chosen me for this life! What a life I’m living!
After the container came we got to be apart of distribution. Mom and I went in the big red truck to deliver food, bibles, and many different supplies to local ministries.
While we were here we went house hunting. Looking for a house in Haiti is tough. You have to keep things in mind that you’d never have to think about in America. Things like, how big is the wall/gate around the place, how much to hire a watchman, is there electricity or do we buy a generator, is there a well and is it safe to drink, what’s the neighborhood like (drugs, gangs, etc.), is it possible to get a satellite for internet, etc. I had looked at apartments that had electricity 24/7, internet, and a watchman. They were so nice, and would have really reminded me of home. But God had a much, much better plan. I ended up getting a place for a third of the price, and it’s a house! God is so good, and I’m so excited to share the plan for this house in a few weeks.
I never believed God would be able to provide a place to live for so cheaply! Silly me! ☺ The next step is crucial. I really really need a vehicle. Life in Haiti is dangerous. I have taken the public transportation before, but it’s really dangerous. There have been a number of attacks on the tap taps, accidents happen all the time, and it’s really hard to haul supplies for ministry in the back of a Ford Ranger truck with 28 people and 6 chickens.
Honestly my friends, the ministry that I believe God has called me to and He is putting into fruition cannot go on without a vehicle. I believe that He will provide through His children. In the next couple of weeks I will be crunching numbers and finding the best way to get a vehicle here. There are so many obstacles, which only makes the process more expensive. Buying a vehicle in country is really risky, you never know what you’re getting. There are Toyota dealerships in Port-au-Prince, and I could buy something new. That’s what I’m leaning toward, but there is always a chance that my vehicle will be stolen from me if it’s too new. Buying in the Dominican is an option, but it’s very expensive to get it back over here. Many missionaries buy in America and ship their vehicle over. That’s a possibility, but customs is SO outrageous right now and you won’t know how much they will charge until it arrives in Haiti. It depends on the mood of the customs agents. There are hundreds of cars in lots in Cap-Haitien that have been shipped over but the customs was so expensive that the people had to abandon the vehicles. Haiti is so corrupt and it makes ministry difficult. I honestly wouldn’t change any of it for the world. When things are difficult, God is able to show off how awesome He is a little bit more ☺

As always, thank you all for your prayers! I appreciate each and every one of you in ways words cannot explain. Please continue to be in prayer for Haiti. Tuesday is the International Witch Doctors Convention. It’s 8 miles from where I’m currently living. It’s literally a huge mud pit that people make sacrifices in, bathe in, and do other things that the witchdoctors tell them is required to honor Satan. It’s a horrible, unfathomable thing. Please also be in prayer for my friend Wislin. He has a heart condition. He’s very sick and is working on getting to the Dominican Republic for some tests. All of the machines in Haiti are broken. Please pray they are able to figure out what’s wrong, and it’s nothing serious. Please continue to pray for direction. I feel God leading me in many ways, and being the naïve 20 year old I am, I want to do all of it! Pray God shows me exactly what is from Him. The needs are so huge in Haiti that it’s hard to discern what specific project God has called you to. And lastly, please pray for a vehicle. This will be vital as the ministry continues to grow.

"You can be sure that God will take care of everything you need, his generosity exceeding even yours in the glory that pours from Jesus. Our God and Father abounds in glory that just pours out into eternity. Yes." - phil. 4:19-20

Jenny

Jenny,
I am forever underestimating God, even when I try not to! It is incredible to see Him work beyond our wildest dreams! During the last two years that God has had my family on the path to missions, we have prayed and prayed for clarity from Him. We have prayed for not only open doors but closed doors as well! He has been so faithful in answering our prayers. I will be praying the same for you as work to discern exactly what God wants you to apply yourself to in Haiti. Great blog post - thanks for the update! You are in our prayers!
