on our way back to haiti :)

Hello friends and family!

It’s hard to believe that it’s almost time to go back to Haiti!  The last 8 weeks have been incredibly God-filled. About two weeks ago we finally found out what was making me so sick!  I had an entamoeba histolytica (definitely had to google the spelling on that one!).  Basically it was a parasite, and thankfully the medicine took care of it and I feel great!

My first several weeks back to America were tough.  I was exhausted, sick, and culture-shocked. God continued to show His love and faithfulness in my life, He brought amazing people to encourage me, I had wonderful quiet times with Him, and getting to rest was amazing.  I didn’t realize how exhausted I was from the last 4 months’ events until I laid my head down in my bed at home.  Wow.

God has presented so many incredible opportunities to me the last couple of months.  I’ve had the privilege of meeting and praying with many families and young people who feel God calling them into full-time, international missions.  It’s been such an honor for me to be able to speak into these people’s lives, encourage them, and share my testimony.  I’m totally convinced that there is nothing better than sitting and talking with like-minded people about what God is doing in their lives.

I’ve been able to continue doing ministry for Haiti while I’ve been home.  We’ve collected shoes for 42 beautiful children in the village of Bois-Neuf. Each child will receive a pair of play shoes and a nice pair of church/school shoes.  We recently had a huge donation of toilet paper, paper towels, diapers, bicycles, and many other things come in.  We work with an organization in Indianapolis who blesses us with medical supplies.  We’ve gotten two shipments from them…including a wheelchair that I’ve been praying about for months now!  God continues to blow me away as He puts more people in our paths. As I’ve been home, I’ve been feeling incredibly blessed to have such wonderful parents and a little brother who are totally loving, supportive, and willing to do anything to further God’s Kingdom in Haiti.  I have tears in my eyes as I type this.  God is so good!

It’s been amazing being home with my family.  I missed them so so so much!  I’ve been able to take time out to spend with each of them individually, and we’ve had a lot of family time.  My little brother is a senior now and he got his driver’s license today!  My dad won a Master Truck Driver award a few months ago, and he’s in a truck driving  championship this weekend.  I’m super excited to cheer for him on Saturday!  I’ve gotten to spend a lot of time at the church with my mom, just hanging out on her office floor, in the way of everyone so they have to step over me. Anytime I’m with my mom, we laugh non-stop.  It’s always such a privilege for me to get to spend time with my family and see God working in them.  They’re incredible.  I wouldn’t trade the last 8 weeks for anything.  When I left, my Papaw Smith didn’t have any hair because of the chemo. He has a beard and a full head of hair now!  Such a wonderful difference!

A few weeks ago my friend Frantzy flew into America. It’s his first time here and it’s been really incredible as I’ve gotten to see America through his eyes!  Such a different perspective.  He’s terrified of becoming addicted to McDonald’s!

I’m heading back to Haiti on Monday.  My mom and I are driving down to Florida and we’ll fly in on Thursday.  I’m SO excited to be in Haiti with mom again. The last time we were in Haiti together was in 2008, our first trip!  It’s going to be amazing watching her love on these kids!

While we’re in Haiti I’ll be looking for a vehicle and an apartment.  I’m sensing God moving in my life and ministry in Haiti, and I’m excited to share things when they become more final.

As always, I’m blown away by the support, prayers, and encouragement that I’ve received.  I think I have the best support group out there!  Thank you all for every prayer, penny, and pint of encouragement ;)  You guys are the best!

Please be in prayer for mom and me as we travel to Florida.  We always seem to run into some kind of crazy adventure when we do things together, please pray it isn’t anything too extreme, dangerous, or costly!  Please pray for discernment and cheap prices as I look at vehicles and new homes.  The language and cultural barrier is tough when facing these kinds of decisions. Lastly, please be in prayer for my mom. Pray that God would show her new and exciting things about who He is while she’s in Haiti and that our time together serving Jesus would be pleasing and glorifying to Him!
