Figye, Haiti - H O T S P R I N G S -- S O U S C H A U D E S! May 4-5, 2014

The day after the wedding we took off for a week long trip from the very top of the country to the very bottom!  Our pathfinder did amazing!  Our first stop was Figye, Haiti.  About an hour and a half outside of Gonaives.  We went out to encourage a church, see about doing a possible clinic, and check out some Hot Springs! :)

30 miles into the middle of nowhere on roads like this!  I was amazed that our car didn't shake apart!

Can you see the bubbles coming up?  The water flows naturally from a source underground.  The thing about these springs is that no one has really explored them or researched what causes them in Haiti.  The Haitians have many stories of course, many of them contain voodoo theories.  The Haitian Tourism department is currently working to preserve them, filter them, and open them up for tourists to come and visit.

It literally feels like the hottest bath water when you put your hand in!  And the more you move your hand around, the more it burns!  The pastor we were with showered in it, I don't think you could have paid me to get in that!  It was an awesome experience anyway!

The government has started building basins and capturing the water for people to use.  The Haitians believe it's a type of healing water, so of course we had to taste it!  Frantzy and I are so bad for each other!  We'll try anything...except showering in those hot springs ;)

On the same property they have clay that has some kind of chemical in it.  It suds up when it's put in water.  The villagers use it to wash their clothes.  There are so many things that haven't been researched/explored in Haiti!  The more the Tourism Department grows, I know they'll begin closing places off and charging for tourists to come in.  I am so thankful we get to see these things now!

We filled our car up with gifts for the church to encourage them.  We were in church until 11 that night!  These people were the nicest!  We didn't have to have any crowd control, they sat quietly and waited for their turn.  We weren't sure how many to plan for, just like always we had just enough!  I love it when God does that! :)

She jumped out of her mom's arms and into mine!  This almost never happens because the kids are usually scared of my white skin!

Old building from the revolution!  I am always amazed at the architecture.
