m e d i c a l c l i n i c

Hi everyone!

I am so excited to share about an upcoming project that we have planned.  For the last few weeks Frantzy has shared with me that one of the things he wants to instill in our 5 'adopted kids' is that they don't have to be an American to be a missionary.  Far to often we hear the Haitians talk about how they wish they could help their people but they just don't have the money or the resources or the correct skin color.  It's heartbreaking and it really makes me feel like in some senses we're failing at missions!  Frantzy and I feel that one of the most important things we can teach the Haitian people is that they too can be missionaries to their people!  You don't have to have white skin, money, or a car!  This has been heavy on Frantzy's heart and he recently shared it with our friend Wislyn, who is a medical student.  Frantzy has 4 years of medical school under his belt and a ton of experience in a few different countries.  Medicine is a huge passion of both Frantzy and Wislyn's.  The boys have prayed about it together and they really feel God asking them to put together a mobile clinic in an area called Lester.

So, we're doing it!  September 10 & 11 we'll be in Lester, Haiti (which is about 3 hours south) with 5-7 other medical students from Port au Prince.  i L O V E everything about what will happen here!  Lester is poor, you know poor?  These people have never seen a doctor, a white person, they haven't ever even heard of the concept of putting ice in a drink to make it cold!  Can you imagine this?  Frantzy has worked it out with a pastor from his church, he'll be putting the 10 of us up in a Haitian home.  We'll be taking bucket showers and eating whatever food they can come up with in exchange for 2 days of medical attention.  And the cool thing is, none of the medical students who will be coming are getting paid.  They've sacrificed and saved money so that they'll be able to afford the bus ticket to Lester...basically they want to be missionaries to their own people, no matter what the cost!  Does this give anyone else chills?  I am so excited to be a part of this!

We just received a container in May and my family sent in a lot of medical supplies.  We're expecting to see between 150 - 200 people.  When we arrive there will be many, many more people than that.  One of our jobs is to triage and decide who is in the most need of medical attention and that's who will be the chosen 150.  This can be a very dangerous job because there will be many desperate people, totally understandable considering many of these people haven't ever seen a doctor!  The guys are already expecting to see some tough cases.  Please pray for discernment as we work through this process.

Something else to pray about - this area is saturated in voodoo.  Some of the stories I've heard from here actually make me a little nervous...and I'm usually the one ready to go and tell the witchdoctors the Truth!  Please also be in prayer for our team - Spiritual protection is so important!

The guys asked me to post the medicines we have on here and ask if anyone would be willing to donate money to purchase more medicine, antibiotics & vitamins.  We can get them for fairly cheap here in Haiti, we've already had one donation but we're still in need of more so that we'll be able to see as many people as we can.
