This past Saturday one of the newer girls, Sara, and I
decided to go to the beach. It was
the perfect day! The weather was
amazing, the water was warm, and the view was absolutely breathtaking. We took a teeny tiny dirt road up
through villages, dodging donkeys and goats, passing cute little women selling
different things, and children screaming “blanc! blanc!” as we drove by. Living in Haiti definitely has it’s
cons. For example, when we were
trying to order food on the beach…in Haiti they usually price things by Haitian
Dollars...but there is no such things as a Haitian Dollar. I think at one point they had them, but
now they have gourdes. So, they
told us how much the food was in Haitian Dollars, all we had were gourdes, and
it was all in Creole! So by the
end of the super confusing discussion…we ended up paying about 350 gourdes or
$10 American (don’t even ask me how many Haitian Dollars! I have no idea) for
some fish and boiled plantains.
When we got back to the base and told them how much we paid…everyone
just laughed. You live and you
learn I suppose. :)
The beach was perfect in so many ways. As I was journaling about it last night
and looking at pictures, something hit me. It’s something so obvious, but when you actually sit down
and think about it, it’s beautiful!
God never had to create such extraordinary colors, He never
had to give us wonderful fragrances in flowers, He never even had to allow us
to hear the sounds of His creation…but He did! He loves us so much that He made the ocean an incredible
masterpiece that astonishes even the most intelligent scientists, He made every
beautiful star in the sky at night, and He allows us to enjoy it! We serve a
God who is so in love with us.
And He is jealous for our love.
Today, let’s remember who created us, let’s remember how much He loves
us, and let’s enjoy the breathtaking masterpiece that He has created for us to
see, smell, touch, and hear.
God's glory is on tour in the skies, God-craft on
exhibit across the horizon.
Madame Day holds classes every morning,
Professor Night lectures each evening.
Their words aren't heard,
their voices aren't recorded,
But their silence fills the earth:
unspoken truth is spoken everywhere.

God makes a huge dome
for the sun—a superdome!
The morning sun's a new husband
leaping from his honeymoon bed,
The daybreaking sun an athlete
racing to the tape.
That's how God's Word vaults across the skies
from sunrise to sunset,
Melting ice, scorching deserts,
warming hearts to faith.
