We had a meeting for Awana in St Georges which was just an hour away from where Frantzy's dad grew up. We had been talking about going down and visiting for awhile so we got spontaneous and drove down to Maniche for the night.
One of my favorite parts about being married to this man is that anytime we are in traffic or a bad area of Port au Prince he pulls his beanie out of the glove compartment. He always has a beanie close. My Jesus loving gangsta (can those words be used in the same sentence?) :) It has been such a blessing in so many aspects of our ministry and marriage that he grew up in the ghetto of Port au Prince! The Haitians have a massive amount of respect for him and he knows Haiti, the good and the bad.
Don't drink and drive! An announcement from the beer company. My favorite part is the goat falling off the mountain along with the tap tap. Such a great announcement ;)
I'm in LOVE with this drive!
Dous Macos - our faaaaaavorite Haitian candy. It's made in Ti Gwav which is conveniently on the way.
I love the actual candy. Frantzy loved the "gratin" - the burnt pieces off the bottom.
Frantzy's grandparents house is still standing. They have a massive amount of land and in the middle on a small hill is their stick & mud house. It is so incredible! I loved seeing where Frantzy used to sleep when we went to spend the summer with them and hear all of his stories!
His grandparents are buried right next to the house. Haitian graves are so unique!
My Putnam County 4-her coming out ;) They have a TON of sheep in the South! I am in love!
This was the road that we had to go up to get to Frantzy's Auntie's house. This is the only picture that I took because I was too busy trying not to freak out! It was SO slippery and when we were almost to the top the road got narrow and nothing was stopping us from sliding off the side of the mountain. At one point Frantzy tried to stop and the back of the car fish-taled around and was centimeters from the edge. I'll definitely be hiking it next time.
Another building from the revolution. love love love!
